    Women in Transport Awards 2016

    This is an event I shot for international media group, Hypenica. The Women in Transport awards cocktail evening took place on 18 October 2016 and was hosted by the African Ports Evolution and African Rail Evolution at the Durban International Convention Centre, South Africa.

    The Women in Transport awards is a collaborative platform dedicated to recognising excellence within the rail and maritime industry in Africa.

    This year’s awards celebration were attended by senior-level executives, key decision-makers and suppliers, within the rail and maritime industry.

    Festival of Desire

    In October 2012 art, academia and activism came together in the Festival of Desire organised by the University of Cape Town’s Youth Research Forum. This multidisciplinary grouping of academics interested in youth research showcased a multimedia exploration of several facets of youth, sexuality and desire.

    NOT ALONE

    I was privileged to document the opening events of the Not Alone exhibition at Iziko’s Slave Lodge and Castel of Good Hope.

    International artists take a stand by being involved in the MAKE ART STOP AIDS project.Not Alone is a traveling exhibition, curated by Carol Brown and David Gere featuring the work of artists from Brazil, the United States, India and South Africa. Aids activist, actor and author, Pieter-Dirk Uys was a guest speaker at the opening.

    The “Keiskamma Altarpiece”, celebrates the renewed hope of life given to the community of Hamburg in the Eastern Cape, after being provided with access to antiretroviral treatment. This spectacular artwork measuring 4.2 m x 6.8 m has been embroidered, beaded and appliquéd by 120 women in the district was exhibited at the Slave Lodge. One of the iconic works exhibited at the Castle of Good Hope, “Medicine Man”, was made up of over 300 medicine bottles and syringes used by Daniel Goldstein and John Kapellas who have lived HIV-Positive for over 20 years.

    Iziko Heritage Day Celebrations

    I documented the Iziko Museums Heritage Day events, which included a morning concert where Cape Town’s children learned the Idiski dance, perfomances at the Slave Lodge as well as educational programs in the South African Museum.

    My photograph of Reuben Sutherland’s “Sculpture” was the front cover of CREATE09 festival guide. CREATE is a cultural partnership between the London boroughs of Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest that are working towards an annual arts festival leading up to and following 2012 Olympics.
